The Staff

Cody is an eleven-year-old Brittany who made the move with us from the Washington, DC area. A lifelong upland bird dog, Cody is a veteran of many weekend hunting trips, and has pointed and retrieved hundreds of pheasant, quail and chukar partridge for our dinner table. He loves life on the farm, and is now spending his golden years relaxing on the lawn and by the fireplace, and chasing off foxes, raccoons, and Niles.

Sage

Director of Inventory Management

Sage is a seven-year-old Border Collie and an invaluable part of farm operations.  He herds the sheep between pastures when it’s time for some fresh grazing, and into corrals when they have a “spa day”—which for our Katahdins consists of pedicures (hoof trimming) and other health checks.  When the sheep need to get from one place to another, Sage is the guy who makes it happen.

Penny is a fox red Labrador puppy, and is the newest addition to the farm. She headed off to boarding school this summer to learn her trade as a waterfowl retriever. We try to have as much of our family’s protein consumption come from our farm as possible, and this includes duck and goose hunting in the fall and winter. We’re looking for big things from Penny in the 2022-23 hunting season!

Niles

Night Watchman

Niles is the barn cat that came with the farm, so we can’t say much about his pedigree and background, but he does an excellent job of keeping our barns rodent-free.

Randy is the proud father of our first batch of 32 lambs. Since full-grown rams can be ornery, Randy was a temporary guest for the fall breeding season. All of our 17 ewes delivered lambs, so we can safely say that Randy served his purpose. Randy is quite the blue-blooded gentleman. He is a fully registered, purebred Katahdin, and hails from the finest Katahdin bloodlines.

Calvin

Head of Public Relations

Calvin was one of the last lambs born. He is a “bottle baby” (lambs that we bottle feed because their mothers won’t let them nurse), so he loves people and… people seem to love him.  Here's Calvin doing some community outreach at our son’s high school lacrosse game.  We’re starting to think that Calvin may add more value in the BHF Marketing Department than he would on your dinner table. Although what to do with him when he reaches his full-grown weight of 150 pounds remains an open question…
